The Singer Manufacturing Company designed these machines so that anyone with knowledge of the working end of a flathead screwdriver can easily perform general care and maintenance of these mechanical marvels. Yes, even YOU! In this fun and interactive workshop, you will gain knowledge, skills, and confidence working on your precious Featherweight that will extend its useful life and your sewing enjoyment! You will learn a bit about its history and some of its quirks, how to avoid common issues and fix them if they occur, keeping it out of the repair shop. You will receive Featherweight information sheets as well as a personal toolkit filled with almost everything you will need for our hands-on class! Your toolkit is in a lovely, zippered pouch that includes oil, grease, a shorty screwdriver, cleaning brushes and more! Some topics covered: • Brief history of the Featherweight and what makes them special • The unique Featherweight case – the good, the bad, and the ugly and what to do about it • Maintenance – what to do, how to do it, and how often • Cleaning – what to do, how to do it, and what NOT to do • What can go wrong – how to prevent it and what to do if it happens to you This workshop will be led by Lisa Selzler who has years of experience repairing, conserving, restoring, and lecturing on many brands and models of vintage and antique sewing machines, but holds a special place in her heart for these small-but-mighty Featherweights. She can’t wait to share her knowledge and affection for them with you.
